    • Hillsborough County Sheriff Training Academy - Tampa, Florida
    RESERVE TRAINING CONFERENCE
    Friday & Saturday, October 1-2, 2010
    Tampa, Florida

    This event is being hosted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office who has made available their Walter C. Heinrich Practical Training Center and state-of-the-art academy classrooms.  These facilities include eight firearms ranges and multiple driving pads (with vehicles).  All courses will be taught by Florida-Certified instructors.

    Course sessions will focus on high impact courses of interest to volunteer officers; training seldom received locally.  Topics have not been finalized, however here are some that are being considered:

        •    Behind-the-Wheel Traffic Stop/Pursuit Driving
        •    Real World Situation  Weapons Course
        •    Off-Duty Survival, Concealed Carry
        •    Use of Deadly Force Liability Issues
        •    Crime Scene Investigation for Patrol Officers
        •    Gang Recognition
        •    Special Event Planning and Execution
        •    Hands-on Handcuffing Techniques

    Ride-a-longs with HCSO Deputies, City of Tampa Police Officers and Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are planned.

    The HCSO Reserve Unit will assist with attendee shuttle transportation.

    (Non-member registration also includes a Basic Individual Membership in the VLEOA.)

    Special Note for Florida & Virginia Reserves and Auxiliary
    Training will be by Certified Florida Department of Law Enforcement instructors and will qualify for Mandatory Re-training credit hours as required by your state.  Others should check with their agencies to see if this training is acceptable per their state certification requirements.

    Reserve Executive Summit Planning Meeting

    Hosted by the Volunteer Law Enforcement Officer Alliance and co-sponsored by the Council for Law Enforcement Reserves (CLER).

    This is an  planning session to lay ground work for an Reserve Executive Summit in 2011.  The Summit will consist of selected Reserve and Auxiliary leaders, both volunteer and career officers, who will come together to discuss topics that are of importance to their programs.  One of the goals will be to formulate a plan on how to address those areas on various levels in the future.
